Breast Cancer Support Blossoms on the Catwalk

Brentwood was delighted to lend a helping hand to a fabulous charity fashion show in support of breast cancer.

The Breast Cancer Haven charity, which provides a range of support services for breast cancer patients throughout the country, has been running its Blossom Fashion Show in Leeds for several years now.

However, this year the organisation decided to build on the show’s success and hold events in each of the five cities where it runs a drop-in centre – London, Birmingham, Southampton and Hereford in addition to Leeds.

At each Blossom show, women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer strut their stuff on the catwalk showing off a glamorous range of hand-picked outfits. With the Leeds event alone raising in excess of £41,000, the charity is looking forward to a bumper fundraising year on the back of the five events.

Brentwood was asked to provide two way radios for the London show on Saturday 16th March. To support staff during set-up and to coordinate the running of the show itself, organisers hired six Lugra DMR handsets from us.

Digital Value

The Lugra DMR is a brand new handset from the company that to date has brought out the Evolve Digital handset, the Evoke Analogue and Evoke 446 two way radio models, as well as the Lugra PTT mobile app and devices, which operates on cellular networks rather than radio frequencies.

Lugra’s first foray into digital two way radio, the DMR is a full keypad and display model, offering a feature set comparable to some of the premium digital radios available on the market but for considerably better value.

We recommended a digital model for the better quality audio they offer compared to analogue, which we felt could make a difference for use during the show when music was playing and with a sizeable crowd in. In addition, the Lugra DMR offers a flexible range of call options, supporting private as well as group calling so users can speak individually with each other without taking up a channel across the whole network. With a full display and keypad, the Lugra DMR can also be used to send text messages.

Hiring rather than purchasing two way radios is always a popular option for organisations that host occasional events. For Breast Cancer Haven, the fact that this is the first time they have booked as many as five fashion show fundraisers in a single year suggests they would not get good value from buying handsets outright as they would only be used infrequently. By hiring two way radio equipment instead, it meant the charity was able to opt for a higher quality solution that was still within budget.
