Lake Meadows is more than just a fireworks display, although the pyrotechnics offer a stunning conclusion to the night. The Billericay Round Table also puts on a fair, a huge bonfire, and a family-friendly festival, with street food stalls and mulled wine for sale.
Any large public event requires excellent security, and communication across site is key. To ensure everyone at Lake Meadows was kept safe on the day, staff needed two way radios to communicate.
Talking over the noise
For the 2015 Lake Meadows fireworks event, the Billericay Round Table chose Brentwood Radios as its two way radio provider. Rather than splashing out on a brand new set of radios, the Round Table opted to hire the units instead.
The radios were used by security staff who were responsible for checking tickets and managing crowds. It was also critical that the team could keep in touch if any children were lost.
Brentwood supplied Motorola DP1400 radios, a digital handset that offers a broad feature set: emergency calling, voice operated communication, text messaging and noise cancellation. The latter was critical for the Lake Meadows fireworks, as staff had to be heard clearly over the bangs, pops and whizzes in the background. We also provided D Shape earpieces to facilitate hands-free usage and clearer audio during the fireworks, plus loud hailers with fist mics that allowed the team to make announcements to the crowd.
The Motorola DP1400 can be purchased as a straightforward analogue radio, or purchased as a digital radio and, if required, can be programmed to work in analogue mode. With the second option, the DP1400 offers an affordable upgrade route for businesses that currently use analogue radios, but plan to upgrade to digital in the near future.
The organisers also hired a Motorola DR3000 repeater to increase signal range, plus a pump-up mast to get the antenna as high as possible to achieve site-wide coverage.
