The Solution

Rising out of the maze of lanes to the west of Farringdon Street and north of Fleet Street, 1 New Street Square is a high profile mixed use development on the western edges of the City. Designed by Apt (formerly Robin Partington & Partners) the development provides 275,000 sq ft of Grade A, BREEAM accredited office space let by accounting giant Deloitte, the building is also home to a varied selection of restaurants and cafes, plus a handful of retail concessions.

Brentwood was contracted to supply the building’s operators with a professional two way radio system for a variety of uses – on-site security, for keeping maintenance and cleaning personnel in touch as they moved around the premises, for health and safety supervision and FM coordination. Our first challenge was to ensure reliable, robust signal was available in all corners of the large building, which we achieved using a combination of Motorola DR3000 repeaters and distributed antenna system.

Given the different purposes management wanted a mobile communications solution to fulfil, we recommended three digital two way radio models, all from Motorola. For day-to-day operational use, we supplied the straightforward but highly reliable DP2400, while for security and fire marshall use, we provided the higher spec DP4400, which amongst other benefits offers more channels so you can always be sure of finding one free. Finally, we felt the full screen DP3600 was the best option for supervisors as it allows work groups to be organised and private calls to be made from a directory.
