Opened in 2016, this impressive 350,000 sq ft office development in King’s Cross serves as one of Google’s key UK operations centres. The 11-storey building is home to close to 3000 of the tech giant’s engineers and other staff. In keeping with Google’s reputation for setting a high value on the well being of its people, 6 Pancras Square is far from just another office building.
Alongside restaurants and gyms, it also features a 90 metre running track and a diverse range of social and relaxation spaces. There are three state-of-the-art YouTube film studios on site, plus more than 90 modular meeting spaces known as ‘jacks’ which can be taken down and reassembled in other parts of the building in different sizes and configurations.
Given the unique nature of many of these amenities, facilities management plays a critical role in supporting the smooth running of operations. All FM personnel are equipped with Motorola digital two way radios supplied by Brentwood to help with efficient coordination. Two types of handset are used on site, the DP4400 and SL4000e. While the DP4400 combines classic two way radio functionality with cutting edge digital performance, the SL4000e features an innovative mobile phone-like design with a full keypad and screen, supporting text messaging, telephone integration, email and network monitoring.
To guarantee optimum performance throughout the large site, we also installed a series of DP3000 repeater units connected with Motorola’s IP Site Connect technology, a software solution which creates wide area two way radio coverage by connecting separate networks via broadband.
