The Promised Land is a varied and fun-packed prayer festival that takes place around the Roman Catholic shrine in Houghton St Giles, Norfolk. Over the August bank holiday, families got together and camped out, took part in discussions and debates, enjoyed live bands and got involved with activities for children.
Youth 2000’s core event programming is aimed at young adults, although families and older people were also welcomed to attend. Many older people staffed the event as volunteers.
For 5 days, the organisers used two way radios to keep the gathering of worshippers safe and secure, and to facilitate smooth running of the events timetable.
WHAT THEY HIRED
The organisers of the Promised Land festival needed a large quantity of radios and earpieces for the 5-day festival. However, Youth 2000 felt that purchasing them would have been unaffordable, given the short span of the event. Our hire service allowed them to access the technology they needed at an affordable price.
The Youth 2000 team hired 12 Motorola CP040 two way radios, known for their easy operation and long battery life. Each radio can be set to continually scan for transmissions, and will operate for up to 19 hours on one charge.
In addition to the radios themselves, we provided 12 Motorola D-shape earpieces so that all operators could use their radio hands free.
For the event’s management and control room, Brentwood Communications also hired a Motorola CM140 base station with a fist mic. This stationary unit lets one person monitor all conversations, and it gives them the tools to alert every radio in the system with an emergency signal.
