Part of the Kenwood ProTalk range, the TK-3501 is a licence-free two-way radio offering exceptional value high-quality performance.
Making use of the free-to-access 446 MHz unlicensed spectrum, the TK-3501 Pro Talk offers all the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of a basic leisure ‘walkie talkie’ with a range of business-class features that make it ideal for use in schools, light industry, retail and small office complexes.
With a slim profile and weighing just 210g, the TK-3501 is a highly portable radio. It will slip comfortably into any pocket and is easy to operate in one hand. Its controls are very user-friendly, with simple push-to-talk (PTT) operation making it ideal for a first-time Two way radio user.
The TK-3501 may be compact and lightweight, but it’s designed to take the knocks of daily use. Its aluminium die-cast chassis gives the radio a tough core, while the outer casing protects against drops, bumps and general wear.
It also meets the IP54 standard, which means it is resistant to dust and splashes of water – ideal for use outdoors or in environments where conditions are less than perfect. From construction sites to busy warehouses, you can rely on the TK-3501 to keep working even when exposed to dust, light rain or the rough handling that comes with active jobs.
The TK-3501 is built for long shifts. Its rechargeable Li-Ion battery delivers up to 20 hours of use when the power-saving mode is active. This mode automatically reduces power consumption when the radio is idle, extending battery life without affecting performance.
For users, this means you can work a full day – or even back-to-back shifts – without worrying about the radio dying mid-task. Whether on a construction site, during an event, or in a busy warehouse, the TK-3501 keeps communication flowing right to the end of the job.
The TK-3501 operates on the licence-free PMR446 band, giving you 16 available channels to choose from. These channels use 8 frequencies and can be paired with 16 different QT/DQT tones, so you can separate your team’s conversations from other radio users nearby.
Changing channels is simple – just use the rotary selector switch on top of the radio to move to an available channel. This makes it quick to avoid interference and find a clear line for your team’s communications.
In practice, this means your staff can always find a channel that works, even in busy areas where other groups may also be using radios.
As an audio specialist, Kenwood two-way radios have a reputation for high quality audio. Despite being a budget option, the TLK-3501 is no exception. Adjustable microphone gain and optimized audio volume with 1.5W BTL amplifier and large internal speakers deliver an impressive 1.5W audio output, which translates into a clear, audible, dependable voice no matter the operating conditions.
The TK-3501 is fully QT and DQT compatible, which means it can filter out unwanted transmissions on the same frequency. QT (Quiet Talk) and DQT (Digital Quiet Talk) codes act like privacy tones – your radio will only open up to calls that use the same matching code. This stops background chatter from other users on the same channel, so your team hears only the conversations that matter.
In short: QT/DQT compatibility means less interference, more privacy and clearer communication.
The TK-3501 lets you adjust channel frequencies, QT tones and DQT codes directly on the handset. There’s no need for specialist programming software or a computer, so you can set up and change settings quickly on site. This makes the radio simple to manage, flexible across different teams, and ready to go whenever you need it.
Additional operating features that are not always present on License free radios include a calling alert, which gives the user a signal that there is an incoming call. Each handset comes with VOX voice activation programmed as standard, which means you can make a call without having to push the PTT button. This is very handy for carrying on conversations as you carry on with something else – the handset will switch to transmit as soon as you start speaking.
There is also a voice scrambling mode which prevents eavesdropping on your conversations. This is an important feature for privacy and security on unlicensed radios. As the frequency range they use is open access, other users within the range can easily tune into your channels and listen to what is being said.
The Kenwood TK 3501 meets IP54 dust and water intrusion standards as well as MIL-STD 810 C, D, E, F, and G environmental standards for shock, vibration, temperature extremes and more. It’s a robust, reliable radio in all conditions.
All Kenwood two-way radios come with a standard one-year manufacturer’s warranty.
