The Kenwood UBZ-LJ9 delivers simple, reliable, affordable communication straight out of the box. With a pair of licence-free PMR446 handsets in every pack, you can start talking on the move right away, up to a maximum range of 6km.

Compact and Lightweight Design for Easy Portability

Weighing just 138g and with an ultra-compact, super lightweight chassis design that fits snugly into the palm of your hand, the UBZ-LJ9 is designed for maximum carrying comfort. But despite its size, it still manages to squeeze in an illuminated DOT matrix display, making it easy to navigate across 32 available channels to speak to different users and call groups.

Push-to-Talk and VOX Hands-Free Operation

Making a call itself couldn’t be simpler. No need to listen to a dial tone and wait for the other user to accept – just press the push-to-talk (PTT) button and speak, and everyone connected to your chosen channel will hear you. And even if your hands are full with something else, no problem. In VOX mode, the UBZ-LJ9 will transmit your voice as soon as you speak, without needing to press a thing.

Licence-Free PMR446 Radios for Cost-Effective Use

In the context of two-way radio, ‘licence free’ means you don’t have to pay for a broadcasting licence to use available frequencies. That’s because the UBZ-LJ9 makes use of the 446 MHz frequency band, which across Europe is designated as the free-to-use public range.

While licence-free radio is great for keeping costs down, one drawback is that you can often pick up interference from other users on the crowded public airwaves. The UBZ-LJ9 resolves this using Kenwood’s patented Digital Quiet Tone (QT) technology, a selective calling protocol that means only users sharing the same signal tone can hear transmissions.

In addition, through a process known as ‘squelching’, this technique reduces hiss from unused channels. There is also adjustable noise reduction sensitivity to give the user exceptional control over audio quality.

A removable and rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 18 hours use time on a single charge, based on just over one hour 45 minutes total usage transmitting and receiving calls (the rest on standby). A USB-C port provides dual charging options via a USB power supply unit and a power bank, while batteries can also be charged while attached to the handset or separately once removed.
