More information

The Motorola XT420 is a robust, dependable and easy-to-use two way radio that delivers excellent value. Operating on the public access 446 MHz frequency range, you don’t need a licence from Ofcom to use these handsets, meaning you save money and can get started with them straight out of the box.

With its loud and clear audio, this non-display radio is equally at home used across a wide range of settings, including construction, retail, manufacturing, hospitality, schools and colleges.

The XT420’s multiple features are a perfect fit for these environments. For instance, its powerful built-in loudspeaker means employees are able to use their radio in noisy areas. Loud, clear audio output in ensured thanks to Motorola’s advanced radio frequency engineering, supplemented with wind noise reduction.

There are 16 channels to choose from. When a user wants to change channels, for example to talk with different work groups, the XT420 announces who they’ve selected, avoiding the necessity of removing the radio from their belt. Channel names can be pre-recorded and saved.

Similarly, if workers are particularly busy and need to speak to colleagues while they work, they can opt for voice-operated mode (VOX). This enables them to talk hands-free without having to operate the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button.

Because the XT420 uses open public radio frequencies, interference from other users and even eavesdropping are risk factors. To counter this, Motorola has built in 219 privacy codes which help maintain a clear signal and protect privacy.

The XT420 promises reliable performance wherever it is used. A fully charged battery lasts up to 20 hours, supporting staff throughout long, arduous shifts. Operatives can communicate confidently over wide areas, as the network range will comfortably cover buildings up to 16 250 m2 or 13 floors in height.

This hard-working model is able to withstand heavy use in tough conditions, with a durable metal diecast chassis that meets military-grade specifications for shock and vibration and IP55 specs for dust and water protection. It has also been certified against Motorola’s demanding five-year Accelerated Life Test, which assesses durability over time in conditions that simulate rain, salt fog, blowing dust and temperature extremes.

Plus, the XT420 comes with a special antimicrobial coating on the chassis which prevents the growth of mould and bacteria. This means handsets can be safely passed between workers at the end of shifts and helps to manage hygiene in environments like restaurants and hospitals.
